Together we will find out how the ceremony should be, so it fits exactly to your and the loved one’s wishes.
How to scatter ashes
We take you safely throughout the process – both before, during and after the ceremony. It typically takes place in the following way:
Before the ceremony
We will find a date to scatter the ashes, and together with the skipper we will find the perfect place to scatter the ashes – based on your and the loved one’s wishes. In addition to that we will find out too how the ceremony will take place so you can say the last goodbye. Then the skipper will be informed about what we have agreed on together. This way we ensure that the crew on board Castor knows how to create solemnity and dignified surroundings for you.
During the ceremony
You start boarding Castor, and then you will be sailed quietly to the agreed coordinates. Skipper will let you know when you arrive to the coordinates. You inform the skipper when you want the ceremony to start. The skipper turns off the engine and then he will draw back. In this way we ensure that the ceremony will be peaceful. You do the ceremony which can contain songs, orations etc. after which you scatter the ashes. There will be peace and time to honor your loved one. After this you will be sailed quietly back to land. Here there is a possibility of dining, but you can also choose to eat on the ship.
After the ceremony
We will send you, if you wish, a personal letter by post. The letter contains the coordinates as well as any other information by appointment.

Your wishes are important
We would like to give you the most personal and dignified ceremony. Therefore, we really want to know about your wishes for the ceremony. It could be that your loved one had written a special wish, you want to play a particular song, you will keep a moment of silence, scatter the ashes along with flowers or something like that. We know it is a difficult time and that is why we want to create the perfect ceremony so you can honor your loved one in a personal and dignified way.
Every time you look beyond the sea, you will be able to remember and send your thoughts to the loved one.

Legislation
Do you choose to scatter the ashes as a way to say the last goodbye there are a number of rules that must be followed. The rules emerge from the danish funeral laws – funeral and cremation §3.
You need permission to scatter ashes
When permission must be given for scattering ashes according to legislation, then it can be done in two ways. One way is that the relatives apply for scattering the ashes. It may be that the relatives have been told orally by the deceased that he/she would like to get his/her ashes scattered. There must be no doubt that the deceased wanted his/her ashes to be scattered. The other way is when the deceased himself/herself had written down his/her wish about getting his/her ashes scattered. The deceased may have expressed his/her wish in writing on borger.dk, where a form can be filled in, but may also have written it on a piece of paper. The paper must emerge the following: the wish, name, address, civil registration number, date, and signature.
Where to scatter the ashes
It is allowed to scatter the ashes at the sea or in certain inlets and bays. The crucial thing for the place is that there is a necessary flow so the ashes will be dissolved. It is not allowed to scatter the ashes at lakes, streams or on land.
The ceremony
There are several rules for the ceremony itself. The relatives decide when they want to scatter the ashes. In Denmark it must be the relatives who scatter the ashes.
When the ceremony takes place, it must not attract attention. It is not allowed to immerse the urn in the sea even though the urn is organic.
Dividing ashes
In Denmark you can divide the ashes. It may be that the deceased grew up abroad but has lived most of his/her life in Denmark. A part of the ashes can be immersed at a cemetery placed in Denmark, and the other part can be immersed at a cemetery abroad.
It is allowed too, to immerse a part of the ashes at a cemetery while the rest will be spread over the sea.
